Lowering a vehicle is a four stage process that includes the following attributes banded into 25% stages.

Stage 1) Front Springs
Stage 2) Lowered Leaf Springs
Stage 3) Adjustable Brackets
Stage 4) Lowered Rear Shock Absorbers

Many customers choose to lower their vehicle using the first two stages and omit stages three and four due to cost. This can have consequences if a customer continues to use the original Ford parts as the ability to adjust the vehicle’s height if carrying a load and setting the shock absorber damping ability is not possible thus creating a rough ride. This may include rear shock absorber bottoming and bumpstop knocking.
SlamMyVan recommends that the full four stage process is chosen to avoid disappointment and a possible second visit to install stages three and four.
SlamMyVan will not be held responsible for customers who omit stages three and four.

When you lower a vehicle you reduce the load capacity that can be carried. If you lower to an extreme drop you remove all load capacity entirely. The flatter the leaf spring or shorter the coil spring the less loading capacity there is, which means the less weight that can be carried. There is no way around this.
Builders, mechanics, window cleaners, valeters and camper van owners in particular should take extra note regarding lowering their vehicle. If you wish to lower the vehicle and intend to carry the same factory approved weight then we recommend NOT to lower the vehicle unless you wish to fit assister springs (applies to vehicles fitted with leaf springs). There is no inbetween or middle ground.
Lowering a vehicle may not be suitable for everyone especially if a load is carried regularly. Customers must think very carefully when lowering a vehicle especially the rear.

Investigative Work

After lowering a vehicle customers will notice a difference in the driveability and handling of the vehicle and may confuse road noise, creaking, knocking or bouncing with a defective spring.
This is very common when lowering rear leaf springs and the original Ford shock absorbers are retained.
When a vehicle is modified other parts may need to be changed to work in conjunction with the new parts that have been fitted. This is explained here:
https://www.modyourconnect.co.uk/coil-leaf-spring-information/
All lowering springs are produced exactly the same way and unless the spring is cracked causing a separation of one or more of the coil rungs it is highly unlikely to be a defective spring.
Worn and loose suspension can cause knocking, banging and creaking and will be amplified by the type of road surface the vehicle is used on.
Of course we are happy to investigate however should the issue not be spring related a charge for the time taken to remove interior trim, road wheel/s and other suspension components will be charged at £50.00 per hour.

* – The Connect MK1 modified axle is produced to the specific axle fitted to the customers vehicle. Please contact us to discuss the axle currently fitted to your vehicle and to check stock. The Connect MK1 axle works on a mandatory exchange basis.

As part of the lowering service and time permitting SlamMyVan will vacuum the front cabin and light clean using a microfibre cloth.

We always replace the front shock absorber to hub bolts free of charge.
